A comment on the duality of Motherhood, this work was created at a time when it felt like I was up to my eye-balls in (two) children, pregnant again, and setting up a new life across the earth from my homeland. It is representative of many of the feelings associated with having your deepest, most guarded places overrun by children. Feelings of both invasiveness and fun – nothing about the self is (seemingly) sacred or private anymore, nothing is your own – exhausting but somehow better ( also an excuse to paint more organic innards - fallopian tube and ovary inside pelvic wall - which I was obsessed with for a time).
Finalist in the (former) Goldwater Estate Art Award show on Waiheke Island 2004.
